Contemporary Dance is an energetic dance form that incorporates travel and fluid movement sequences. The genre of Contemporary Dance is an energetic, exciting one that includes many different styles. It encourages greater use of the body’s natural abilities – breath, internal energy, its relationship with gravity – to create fluid movement. There is a strong emphasis on the connection between mind and body.
There is a structured warm-up that leads into sequences exploring dynamics such as weight, suspension and rebound.
Here at the BNHC the main style of teaching is Cunningham and Release based.
Lisa Gillam and Kate Szkolar are delighted to jointly deliver an Advanced contemporary technique class for those with a strong understanding of Contemporary dance technique. Through structured exercises and demanding travelling phrases, this class will focus mainly on Cunningham and Release-based techniques and how these can be supported through an understanding of safe and effective movement. In additional to technical clarity, dancers will be challenged to explore and develop their strength, flexibility, stamina and coordination. This is a great class for those who have completed a more advanced level of dance training, as well as for those who wish to supplement their current dance studies.
Individual class drop-ins are also allowed for £8 (£7 conc) if space. No class cards accepted.
Courses and workshops can be booked online – just click the button where shown. Drop-in classes cannot be booked online – just pay at the start of the class – no pre-booking required. Concession rates (conc.) must be booked in person at the centre with proof of concession status.
