Green tea associated with reduced functional disability

A study of nearly 14,000 Japanese elders (65+) found that green tea consumption was associated with a reduced risk of functional disability over the three-year study period, even after adjustment for other possibly confounding lifestyle factors.

Functional disability is defined as having problems with daily activities such as being able to go out shopping, managing housework, dressing and feeding oneself etc. The benefits of green tea appeared to be dose-related, with functional disability rates of 7.1% for those drinking at least five cups a day, 8% (3-4 cups), 11% (1-2 cups) and 13.3% (less than one cup).
